Who we are

This policy explains what Otsu Live collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Otsu Live is a live-streaming and social app for adults 18 and older. Privacy questions: privacy@otsulive.com. Other questions: support@otsulive.com. Website: otsulive.com

What we collect

• Account: your email, username, password (stored scrambled, never in plain text), your birth year and when you confirmed you are 18 or older (we don't keep your full date of birth), and when you accepted the Terms.
• Profile: bio, avatar emoji and color or profile photo, and any social media usernames you add (Instagram, TikTok and so on).
• What you post and send: photos, videos (up to 60 seconds, filmed in the app) and captions, likes, comments, direct messages, live stream titles and chat messages, gifts, and your coin balance and earnings.
• Coin purchases: when you buy coins, Apple or Google handles the payment (we never see your card or bank details). We receive and keep a record of the purchase (which coin pack, when, the store's transaction number and whether it was refunded) so your coins are added once and refunds can be handled.
• Live streams: when you go live, your camera video and microphone sound are sent live to the people watching, through our video provider LiveKit. Streams are not saved, except that when someone reports a live stream, up to about 10 minutes of it may be recorded as evidence for our safety team.
• Live captions (optional): if a streamer switches on live captions, their phone turns their speech into text on the phone itself. Only the text is sent, through our server, to the people watching. Captions are not saved.
• Connections: who you follow, who follows you, and who you block.
• Safety records: reports you make or that are made about you, moderation actions staff take on your account (such as freezes and bans) and the reasons, and copyright (DMCA) notices and counter-notices.
• Login sessions: when you log in, a sign-in token is saved on your phone (in its secure storage) so you stay logged in.
• Notifications: if you are a staff member, your phone's push notification token, so we can alert you about new reports.
• Feedback: what you write in "Send feedback" (and a screenshot if you add one, kept up to 180 days), together with your phone type, system version and app version. Beta testers' check-in answers (ratings and comments) are kept with their account.
• Crash reports: if the app or our server crashes, a technical report (what went wrong in the code, your phone model, system and app version, and your account number) is sent to Sentry. It does not include your messages, photos, email or password.
• Technical: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs that can include IP addresses. We save the IP address of anyone who sends a copyright notice, as a record.

We only use your camera, microphone and photo library when you choose to go live, to take or pick a photo, or to film a video. Translating a live chat message uses your phone's own built-in translation (from Apple or Google); the message is translated on your phone and is not sent to us or another company for that. We don't collect your location or contacts, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

How we use it

To run Otsu Live: log you in, show your profile, photos and streams, deliver messages, chat and gifts, and keep coin balances.
To keep Otsu Live safe: review reports, enforce our rules, and filter offensive words (text you type is checked automatically). Photos and profile pictures are checked automatically for nudity when you upload them, on our own server (they are not sent to another company); clearly explicit ones are refused and borderline ones are sent to staff to review. Photos you post get the Otsu Live logo and your @username marked in the corner. When a photo is removed for copyright, we keep a fingerprint of the image (a short code, not the photo) so it can't be posted again.
To contact you: password reset codes, account delete links, notices about your account (for example a freeze or ban), and copyright notices.

Who can see it

Other users can see your username, avatar or profile photo, bio, social media usernames, followers and following, your photos, likes and comments, your live streams (anyone watching can see and hear them), and your stream chat messages and gifts.
Direct messages are seen by you and the person you are messaging. Otsu Live staff can see a message, photo, comment or profile when it is reported, and can review accounts to enforce the rules.
Your email, birth year, coin balance and earnings are private to you and Otsu Live staff.

Service providers we use

We don't sell your personal information and we don't use it for advertising. We share it only with companies that help run Otsu Live:
• Railway: hosts our servers, database and photos.
• Brevo: sends our emails (so it receives your email address and the email content).
• Expo: delivers app updates and push notifications (so it receives push tokens and notification text).
• LiveKit: carries live stream video and sound, and delivers live chat and gifts to the people watching.
• Cloudflare: stores the videos posted on profiles and, privately, the safety recordings of reported streams, and runs our otsulive.com domain and email forwarding.
• Sentry: receives crash reports so we can fix problems.
Apple and Google also process information when you download the app from their stores.

When we share it for legal or safety reasons

• Copyright: if we remove your content after a copyright notice, we tell you who sent it. If you send a counter-notice, the law requires us to send it, including your name and contact details, to the person who made the claim.
• Child safety: we report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as U.S. law requires, and it may pass the report to the police.
• The law: we share information when the law requires it, for example a valid court order, or to protect someone from serious harm.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open.
When you delete your account, we delete your profile, profile photo, photos (with their likes and comments), comments you wrote, direct messages you sent and received, streams and their chat, gifts you sent, follows, blocks, reports you made, and your coins and earnings.
We keep some records after deletion, for safety and legal reasons: reports other people made about your account, the staff activity log (which records that the account was deleted), copyright notice records, and fingerprints of photos removed for copyright.
Banned accounts, and accounts under a child-safety review, can't be deleted while the review is open, because the law requires us to keep evidence (for at least one year).
Emails we have sent may stay in our email provider's logs for a limited time.
Backup copies of our database (kept so we can recover from a failure) are stored securely for up to 30 days; deleted data disappears from them when they expire.
If an account is banned, we keep a scrambled (one-way hashed) copy of its email address, even after the account is deleted, so it can't be used to sign up again. We also keep the record of warnings (strikes) given to an account.
While you stream, the app sends a small picture of your camera to our server about every 30 seconds for an automatic nudity check. Pictures that pass are deleted right away; only pictures the check flags are kept for staff review, for up to 90 days.
Safety recordings of reported streams are kept for up to 90 days, and longer (at least one year) when they are part of a child-safety report or needed for a legal reason. Feedback is kept until we have dealt with it. Crash reports are kept by Sentry for a limited time and then deleted automatically.

Your choices

You can edit your profile, remove your social links, change your password, and block people at any time.
You can delete your account in the app (Profile → ☰ → Settings & Privacy → Delete Account) or on our website at /delete-account, even without the app.
You can turn off camera, microphone and photo access in your phone's settings (camera and microphone are needed to go live).
You can email us to ask what information we hold about you, or to correct it: privacy@otsulive.com

Security

Passwords are stored scrambled, connections to our servers are encrypted (HTTPS), and only staff who need it can see private information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you don't use anywhere else.

Children

Otsu Live is for adults 18 and older. Sign-up asks for your date of birth, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Otsu Live, please report the account (choose Child safety) or contact us, and we will close it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If we make important changes, we will let you know in the app. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
